Each year, the Harvest Garden offers summer internships to local high school students who are interested in organic farming and enjoy working with kids. Students will spend approximately 8-10 hours a month at the garden learning about soil care, crop rotation and vermiculture while they garden from seed to harvest. The high schoolers will also play a leadership role in our regular Sunday workshops with middle schoolers and community volunteers. If you are interested in learning more about the summer internship program, please go to Contact Us tab and send us your information.
This summer we are pleased to have 5 high school students participating in our summer internship program. All of these students have volunteered at the garden over the past few years. Each intern will be responsible for certain beds and will nurture them from seed to harvest. Interns will be introduced to the food banks that we donate to. One of our goals this summer is to highlight the produce that goes to the food banks. Interns will be responsible for finding and testing out simple recipes specific to the donated vegetables. We will then distribute little recipe cards to be on display where the food bank clients pick out the produce. We would also like to create signs that says "Locally Organically Grown" that will let clients know the quality of the produce offered. At the end of the summer the Interns will help organize and work at the Farmer's Market. We are looking forward to a great summer.
